Theoretical biochemistry research
(Bililign, Gdanitz, Basti)

This research includes 2 projects with Mufeed Basti (A&T physical chemist) and two graduate students. Both cases involve the structure determination from Nuclear Overhauser Effect (NOE) constraints obtained from Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) measurements. The first molecule, 1-[2-[bis(4-fluorophenyl)methoxy]ethyl]-4-(3-phenylpropyl)piperazine, is a drug that showed promising results in the treatment of cocaine addiction. The second molecule is an RNA consisting of 3 guanidine and 3 pentose groups. Later, the reaction of the latter RNA with mercury will be studied.
